This is one of my all time favorite BOOKS. After the first time I read this I rushed out to rent this movie to see how the transfer from book to film was.
I was utterly disappointed. I did not like this movie one bit. So many important parts of this book were cut out or changed around that it totally destroyed the movie for me.
I was with someone who never read the book and they seemed to enjoy it though.

It's a film that will influence anybody deeply till the rest of their life. Every scene is so alive and so natural and you get carried away by the acting. You almost feel like you are one of the characters, or you want to be one of them at cause they're having so much fun in their roles and they're putting so much enthusiasm at every moment. It's not like they are acting, they literally are living in that mental institution! Jack Nicholson's best movie in my opinion and he shines throughout the movie. He plays the role with his flesh and mind and soul(with everything he got) he made every effort to help this movie stay a masterpiece forever. In other words, every time you watch the movie, it gets better and better, you start to appreciate the details of the film more. br> It's not like Fight Club or Memento, or any other flashy good movies of 1990s and 2000s. Young generations should avoid judging the movie by comparing to movies of today. This is one of the best movies ever made.(Of course not better than Godfather Series or Kubrick's movies between 60s' and 80's) Everybody MUST SEE it at least once in their lifetime. I have already seen it 4 times.
I absolutely fell in love with it.(The only other film influenced me this much is of course Godfather. I've watched it over and over again 3 times in the same day. Don't forget to watch the making of the movie too! It's a brilliant movie, in its magical psychological atmosphere, you can find life itself with its ups and downs.
So be prepared to laugh at one moment and cry the next.
